Mantram - 1.5:4: Upasana 3 – On the Vedas
With Translation :
9 bhuh iti vai richah; = Bhuh is – RIG VEDA;
bhuvah iti saamaani; = Bhuvah is – SAMA VEDA;
suvah iti yajoogmshi; = Suvah is – YAJUR VEDA;
maha iti brahma; = Mahah is – BRAHMAN (the “OM” syllable);
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10 brahmanaa vaava sarve = It is by the OM syllable that all
vedaa maheeyante = the Vedas are nourished.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bhashyam (Vyakyanam) :
9-10 In the light of the previous two Upasanas, we may be tempted to differentiate
the Vedas into higher and lower, or subtler and grosser, categories. Fortunately, Pujya
Chinmayananda guides us not to do any such thing. He clarifies that what is to be noted is
that they all contain Mantras, and that the essence of all Mantras is “Om”, which represents
the Supreme Reality, Brahman. Thus, Om meditation is prescribed here.
