Mantram-2 :

Aavahanti vitanvaanaa; kurvaanaa acheeram aatmanah;

vaasaagmsi mama gaavah cha; anna-paane cha sarvadaa;

tatah me shriyam aavah; lomashaam pashubhih sahasvaahaa;

aamaayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa;

vimaa aayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa;

pramaa aayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa;

damaayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa;

shamaayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa

Translation :

10 Aavahanti vitanvaanaa; kurvaanaa acheeram aatmanah; = Bring in continuously, in multiplying proportions, good fortune without delay, and for all time.

11 vaasaagmsi mama gaavah cha; = Bring in cloth and cattle for me;

12 anna-paane cha sarvadaa;    = Bring in food and drink of all varieties;

13 tatah me shriyam aavah;     = O Lord, afterwards let prosperity be mine:

14 lomashaam pashubhih sahasvaahaa; = Hairy animals along with cattle – let them come to me.

15 aamaayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa; = Thirsty for knowledge –  may such celibates come to me;

16 vimaa aayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa; = From distant places and all directions – may such celibates come to me;

17 pramaa aayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa; = In large numbers – may such celibates come to me;

18 damaayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa; = Who control their senses –  may such celibates come to me;

19 shamaayantu brahmachaarinah swaahaa = Who are peaceful – may such celibates come to me;

  Commentary :

This is a need for the teacher to have a sufficient number of students not only to 

make the teaching venture more viable, but to spread the Vedic culture to the maximum 

number of people. However, it is not just numbers for numbers’ sake. The primary 

qualification is the Practice of Celibacy. This is stressed in the last five Padas. That alone 

ensures his eligibility to succeed in his learning. That alone ensures excellence in learning.
