Mantram : 4.0: The Guru- Parampara (Lineage or Hierarchy of Gurus) 

"Naaraayanam padma   bhuvam vasishtham, shaktim cha tat putra  paraasharam cha; 

vyaasam shukam  gauDapadam mahaantam,  govindayogeendram   atha asya shishyam; 

shree shankaraachaaryam atha asya padmapaadam, cha hastaamalakam   cha shishyam; 

tam troTakam vaarttikakaaram anyaan, asmad guroon santata maanatah asmi."

Translation:

1 

naaraayanam padma  =  From Lord Narayana’s Lotus 

bhuvam vasishtham,  =  Feet came Sage Vasishtha; 

shaktim cha tat putra  =  from him came his sons, Shakti  

paraasharam cha;  =   and  Parasara; 

2 

vyaasam shukam  =   Then came Sage Vyasa and Suka, 

gauDapadam mahaantam,  =  and then the great Gaudapada; 

govindayogeendram  =  then came Govindapada, the Lord of Yogis; 

atha asya shishyam;  =  from him came his student 

3 

shree shankaraachaaryam  =  Sri Shankaracharya; 

atha asya padmapaadam,  =  from him came Sri Padmapadacharya

cha hastaamalakam  =  and Hastamalakacharya, 

cha shishyam;  =  they being his students;  

4 

tam troTakam  =  Then came Trotakacharya and the 

vaarttikakaaram anyaan,  =  commentator (Sureshvaracharya), and others 

asmad guroon santata   =   like them. This is the hierarchy of Gurus 

maanatah asmi  =  in whom I repose my faith.
