INVOCATORY PRAYERS of BHASHYA : From: The Bhashyakara, Sri Shankaracharyaji

1 

prajnaana amsha  =  That Viswa, a diffusion of unchanging Consciousness, 

 prataanaih  = by which is experienced (in the waking state) 

 sthira  =   vyaapibhih vyaapya lokaan;

 chara  =  all that moves or does not move;

 nikara,  =  by  which is pervaded all levels of the human being;

2 

bhuktvaa bhogaan thavishthaan,  =  That Taijasa which is the enjoyer of objects 

punah api dhishanah,  =   again and again (in the dream state),

udbhaasitaan-kaama-janyaan;  =  produced by the intellect, and born of desire;

3 

peetvaa sarvaan-visheshaan,  =  That Praajna, having drunk all varieties of objects,

swapiti madhura-bhung,  =   then in the deep sleep state enjoys pure Bliss,

maayayaa bhojayan nah;  =  all the while through Maya being shielded from us;

4 

maayaa-samkhyaa-tureeyam,  =  That “Fourth”, as termed from Maya’s viewpoint, 

 param-amritam-ajam,  =   is supreme, immortal and birthless –

brahma yat-tannatosmi.  =  to That Brahman do I bow down!
