Explanation of the Phala or Fruits
The overall main point to be stressed here is that the fruits for these three Quarters
are meagre in comparison to the fruit of Turiya. Turiya is the ultimate goal of life, the
supreme fruit of all spiritual Sadhana. The secondary fruits mentioned in these verses is for
the sake of praising that Supreme Fruit indirectly
Any Upasana which will always be accompanied by its fruits. The fruits can be
renounced, but that is a separate matter. Why are these fruits considered to be secondary?
In any Upasana, a fruit is stated in order to encourage the person to do that
Upasana. It is hoped that as the person progresses, his purity enables him to look beyond
these limited fruits and aim for the infinite fruit of God-realisation. For this reason, these
fruits are not to be over-emphasised for students of Vedanta.
One general fact about all the fruits is that they follow the lines of the ‘Similarity’
that precedes them in the verse. As is the similarity pointed out, so is the nature of the fruit.
