ISAVASYA UPANISHAD :

or

VAJASANEYI    SAMHITA    UPANISHAD

Mantram-2.

Discussion- 6. "evam".......

Thus ( evam ) : - Physical   activities  for  an  entire  life-time,  with  knowledge  of  the  Real  and  in  a  spirit  of  paying  homage  unto  Him,  detached  from  the  anxiety  for  the  fruits  and  from  the  ego-sense,  is  recommended  here.*

* "Renouncing  all  actions  in  Me,  with  mind  centred  on  the  Self,  free  from  hope  and  egoism,  free  from  ( mental ) fever,  fight"( Gita-3.30.)

For,  such  activities  are laudable, being  no  bar  to  spiritual  progress.

In  fact,  these  are  helpful  to  prepare  the  students  for  the  highest  meditation-flights.

The  term  evam,  meaning  'in  this  manner,'   can  be  referred  to  what  has  been  already  indicated  in  the  previous  mantram,  or  may  refer  to  the  pattern  of  work  as  expounded  in  the  following  mantra-s  of  this  Upanishad.

In  either  way,  it  amounts  to  saying  that  even  a  Man  of  Perfection,  who  through  renunciation  has  come  to  experience  the  world  'clothed  in  Isa' must  also  work;  to  seekers,  dedicated  work  is  a  sadhana  for  their  inner  purification  of  vasana-s.
