Mantram - 4.40: Causality Just Not Possible  

1 

Na asti asad-hetukam asat, = The unreal cannot have the unreal for its cause; 

2 

sat asad-hetukam tathaa; = nor can the Real be produced from the unreal; 

3 

sat cha sad hetukam na asti, = the Real cannot be the cause of another Real; 

4 

sad-hetukam asat kutah. = How then can the Real be the cause of the unreal?
