Mantram-9. { "Mountains, rivers, plants,  rtc. are also  born  of  Brahmam" }.


Atah  samudra  girayas-ca  sarve-smat

syandante  sindhavah  sarva-rupah,

atas  ca  sarva  osadhayo  rasas-ca

yenaisa  bhutais-tishthate  hy-antaratma.


atah  =  from  Him;

samudrah  =  the  occeans;

girayah  =  the  mountains;

ca  =  and;

sarve  =  all;

( utpannah  =  have  originated);

asmat  =  from  Him;

syandante  =  flow;

sindhavah  =  the  rivers;

sarva-rupah  =  of all  descriptions;

atah  =  from  Him;

ca  =  too;

sarvah  =  all;

osadhayah  =  the  herbs;

rasah  =  the  saps;

ca  =  and;

(sambhavanti  =  originate );

yena  =  by  which;

esah  =  this;

bhutaih  =  by  the  gross  elements  of  matter;

tishthate  =  exists;

hi  =  indeed;

antaratma  =  the  subtle  body;

( pariveshtitah  =  being  encircled).



"From  Him  ( Brahmam),  all  the  oceans  and  mountains;  from  Him,  the  rivers  of  every  description;  from  Him,  too,  all  herbs  and  saps  by  which  the  subtle  body  exists  encircled  by  the  gross  elements  of  matter."

Discussion-1.

In the last mantram the great Rishi summarizing his transcendental wisdom declared, "all this is, verily, "AUM".

Continuing the declaration, the Rishi is now giving a discourse to the student and he says, "all this is BRAHMAM."

Naturally, it is clear that the great Master is wanting the student to understand that AUM is BRAHMAM.

"AGAMA PRAKARANA"

Mantram-2

"Sarvam  hyetad  Brahma,  ayam-atma Brahma,
so' yam-atma  catuspat."

brahma - this (is)  BRAHMAM;

ayam atma brahma - this Self ( ATMA IN US ) is BRAHMAM;

ayam atma - ( which is ) this Self ( ATMA IN US );

Discussion-7.

The Absolute 'this' is then the Spiritual Center in ourselves; and since Spiritual Factor is Eternal and All-pervading, the Center in ourselves is the Center everywhere.

The individual-Self is the Universal-Self.

And hence the Sruti says, "This Atma is BRAHMAM."

This oft-quoted declaration is considered to be major text ( Mahavakyam ) by the Vedantik-seekers.

Jagarita-sthano  bahih  prajnah  saptanga

ekona-vimsati-mukhah  sthula-bhuk

vaisvanarah  prathamah  padah.

Jagarita-sthano  :  one whose field is waking state;

bahih  prajnah   :  who is conscious of the external;

sapta  angah  :  has seven limbs;

ekona  vimsati  mukhah  :  has nineteen mouths;

sthula-bhuk  :  experiencer of  gross objects;

vaisvanarah   :  (is)  vaisvanara;

prathamah  :  first;

padah  ;  quarter.

The first quarter (pada)  is Vaisvanara whose sphere of activity is the waking state, who is conscious of the external world of objects, who has seven limbs and ninteen mouths, and who enjoys the gross objects of the world.
